The Foster Education Initiative is a joint project of the Education Law Center-PA and Juvenile Law Center, with support from the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
The Initiative works to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for the 23,000 children in care in Pennsylvania by:
- Preventing children in care from being bounced from school to school.
- Creating and enforcing policies to ensure that children are enrolled immediately in a new school when they do move.
- Ensuring that children in foster care who need special education receive the services mandated by law.
- Educating biological and foster parents as well as case workers and other professionals about the education and special education rights of children in care.
